AlternateEarths.com was made for creative people of all stripes to share and collaborate with one another--with a focus on creating a NEW universe of unique characters and stories. To that end, this page is a quick step-by-step guide to help you get started...

  • Contribute your creations to existing popular properties and develop continuing storylines and artwork of your favorite characters.

How to Submit a Character

Step 1. - Open a new window so you can read this instruction while doing the step by step.

Step 2. - For a quick character submission, click on the green "Submit a character" button located on the homepage of AlternateEarths.com. Or, for the full form, go to your Submissions page from the login dropdown and click on the plus "+" sign to open a new form. Then select Artwork for Sub-type 1 and Character for Sub-type 2.

Step 3. - Upload your artwork by clicking on the graphic in the upper left. A window will open where you can select your file from your computer.

Step 4. - Fill in all applicable fields. At a minimum, you need to have a title. If you do not understand what is requested in a certain field, leave it blank. You can always come back and fill it in later.

Step 5. - Once you have given your submission a title, choose the applicable genre/universe where it will appear.

Step 6. - Click on the blue "Submit" button at the bottom after you have completed the form.

How to Submit a Story

Step 1. - Open a new window so you can read this instruction while doing the step by step.

Step 2. - Next, open up a submission form in any of these three ways...

a. By clicking on the "Submit a Story" button on the Homepage. Or...

b. Clicking on the "Submit Creations" link at the very top (gray) menu of the Homepage and select "Submit Writings". Or...

c. Open the dropdown menu by the login/avatar in the upper right side of the homepage and click on "My Submissions" to open the Submissions page. Then open a Submission form by clicking on the "+" plus sign.

Step 3. - Fill in all applicable fields. If you do not understand what is requested in a certain field, leave it blank. You can always come back and fill it in later.

At a minimum you should fill in these fields...

a. Title/Headline: Example - The Terrifying Tale of Nathan McNippy.

b. Sub Type 1: Writing

c. Sub Type 2: Stories

d. Summary: Example - A horrible little boy learns what true love is when he is terrorized by a mean little girl.

e. Content: Submit the bulk of your story here. You may use embeds such as Scribd if you like, although it may impede the ability for you to collaborate with others on the site.

f. If you have a teaser image for your story, you may upload it on the left. Images you want to be shown WITHIN your story should be submitted through the content field editor. Images for stories are optional, not mandatory.

g. Choose a "Primary Universe/Genre" for your story so that it appears in the proper areas of the site. Example: Horror

h. If this is your original work, make sure you check the box in "Copyright Protection" so that your submission is logged and labled with a watermark.

Step 4. - Click on the blue "Submit" button at the bottom after you have completed the form.

Step 5. - If you need to go back and edit your story, you may do that at any time by clicking on the "Edit" link in your Submissions listing page.

How to Create a World

Step 1. - Open a new window so you can read this instruction while doing the step by step.

Step 2. - Next, open up a World Creation Form in any of these three ways...

a. By clicking on the "Build a World" button on the Homepage. Or...

b. Clicking on the "Submit Creations" link at the very top (gray) menu of the Homepage and select "Create a World". Or...

c. Open the dropdown menu by the login/avatar in the upper right side of the homepage and click on "My Worlds" to open your Worlds listing. Then open a World Creation form by clicking on the "+" plus sign.

Step 3. - Fill in all applicable fields as completely as possible. If you do not have every detail fully fleshed out, fill in what you can and realize you can come back to finish it later. Note: If you do not upload a teaser image and cover image, a generic default image will be inserted.

Step 4. - Click on the blue "Save" button at the bottom after you have completed the form.

How to Submit a Video

Step 1. - Open a new window so you can read this instruction while doing the step by step.

Step 2. - Next, open up a submission form in either of these two ways...

a. By clicking on the "Submit Creations" link at the very top (gray) menu of the Homepage and select "Submit a Video". Or...

b. Open the dropdown menu by the login/avatar in the upper right side of the homepage and click on "My Submissions" to open the Submissions page. Then open a Submission form by clicking on the "+" plus sign.

Step 3. - Fill in all applicable fields. If you do not understand what is requested in a certain field, leave it blank. You can always come back and fill it in later.

At a minimum you should fill in these fields...

a. Title/Headline: Example - My Speed Drawing Video

b. Sub Type 1: Film/Video/Podcast

c. Sub Type 2: Tutorial (Using title example above)

d. Video Settings: Choose either to upload a video or insert a link to a YouTube or Vimeo video.

e. Choose a "Primary Universe/Genre" for your video so that it appears in the proper areas of the site. (Example: SciFi)

Step 4. - Click on the blue "Submit" button at the bottom after you have completed the form.

Step 5. - If you need to go back and edit your submission, you may do that at any time by clicking on the "Edit" link in your Submissions listing page.

How to Submit Photography

Step 1. - Open a new window so you can read this instruction while doing the step by step.

Step 2. - Next, open up a submission form in either of these two ways...

How to Submit to Our News Section

Step 2. - Next, open up a submission form in either of these two ways...

a. By clicking on the "Submit Creations" link at the very top (gray) menu of the Homepage and select "Submit Writings". Or...

h. Choose a "Primary Universe/Genre" for your story so that it appears in the proper areas of the site. Example: Action/Adventure

Step 4. - Click on the blue "Submit" button at the bottom after you have completed the form.

Step 5. - News submissions may be edited until the Editor-in-Chief of the news section accepts your submission. Once that is done, it is locked from editing and will appear in the news section of the site. So, be sure to do any editing shortly after you have submitted.

How to Make a Classified Ad

Step 1. - Open a new window so you can read this instruction while doing the step by step.

Step 2. - Open the dropdown menu by the login/avatar in the upper right side of the homepage and click on "My Submissions" to open the Submissions page. (NOTE: you must already have registered on the site.)

Step 3. - Open a Submission form by clicking on the "+" plus sign.

Step 4. - Fill in all applicable fields. If you do not understand what is requested in a certain field, leave it blank. You can always come back and fill it in later.

At a minimum you should fill in these fields...

a. Title/Headline: Example - Director Looking for Actors for Fan Film.

b. Sub Type 1: Writing

c. Sub Type 2: News

d. Sub Type 3: Classifieds

e. Summary: Example - Film school graduate looking to make the next big YouTube horror film. Need actresses and a big dude with foam rubber machete.

f. Content: Example - I'm a legitimate filmmaker fresh from film school but I need to make my masterpiece in order to break into the director's clique. I can pay minimum wage to 5 actors for a months work. If interested, contact me through my profile page HERE

Step 5. - Click on the blue "Submit" button at the bottom after you have completed the form. Your ad will appear in the classifieds area HERE.

How to Create a Comic Book Gallery and Viewer...

Step 1. - Login (you must be registered) and open a new window so you can read this instruction while doing the step by step. NOTE: You should have the scanned comic book pages ready to upload and available on your computer.

Step 2. - Submit your comic book page(s) through any of the submission links on the site:

a. The Submit Creations link on the top gray menu bar. Submit creations/Submit artwork.

b. On your Avatar/login dropdown. My Submissions then click on the "+" plus sign to access the submission form.

c. On the black menu bar in your internal/private view:

Step 3. - Once in the submissions form...Upload your artwork by clicking on the graphic in the upper left. A window will open where you can select your file from your computer.

Step 4. - Fill in all applicable fields. If you do not understand what is requested in a certain field, leave it blank. You can always come back and fill it in later.

These are the important ones:

a. Title=Example: SuperDude Comic

b. Sub Type 1: Artwork

c. Sub Type 2: Comic Books

d. Gallery/Add New=Example:SuperDude Comic Gallery (NOTE: You MUST make a separate gallery for each comic book so that you may order your pages.)

e. Primary Universe/Genre=Comics

Step 5. - Click on the blue "Submit" button at the bottom after you have completed the form.

Step 5. - Continue this process for each page until you have all images loaded into your gallery. NOTE: After you have created the gallery for the first image, you will select that gallery for all remaining images. Do not keep creating new galleries for every image.

Step 6. - Once you have all the images loaded, you need to number them within the system so that users can view them in order. To do this. Go to your "Galleries" on the black menu bar.

Step 7. - Choose the Gallery you created and then click on the edit icon (little pencil and paper graphic) in the upper left. A window will appear with a check box that says, "Organize your Gallery Sequentially". Make sure this box is checked, then close the window.

Step 8. - Back in the gallery, click on "Custom Order" in the Sort by area. Ordered numbers should appear underneath each image. Order them however you want.

Now when a user clicks on an image from that gallery it will display the image, and at the bottom show the comic book gallery where they can flip through the whole comic book and see all the ordered images.

How to Make a Announcement...

Step 1. - Open a new window so you can read this instruction while doing the step by step.

Step 2. - Open the dropdown menu by the login/avatar in the upper right side of the homepage and click on "My Submissions" to open the Submissions page. (NOTE: you must already have registered on the site.)

Step 3. - Open a Submission form by clicking on the "+" plus sign.

Step 4. - Fill in all applicable fields. If you do not understand what is requested in a certain field, leave it blank. You can always come back and fill it in later.

At a minimum you should fill in these fields...

a. Title/Headline: Example - Meet me at SDCC!

b. Sub Type 1: Writing

c. Sub Type 2: News

d. Sub Type 3: Announcement

e. Summary: Example - Fanboy wants to buy you a beer at SDCC.

f. Content: Example - Hey everybody, I'm going to be at SDCC this year and want to get together with the people I have met on this site. Contact me through my profile page HERE ...and lets figure out a place to meet. I'll buy you a beer!

Step 5. - Click on the blue "Submit" button at the bottom after you have completed the form. Your announcement will appear in the announcement area HERE.
